# Create a Shopify App and Connect OOMOL

Before you begin, sign in with a Shopify account that can create apps and install them on your store.

## 1. Create the app

1. Sign in to [Shopify Dev Dashboard](https://dev.shopify.com/).
2. Open **Apps** and choose **Create app**.
3. Select **Start from Dev Dashboard**.
4. Name the app, for example `OOMOL Shopify`, and choose **Create**.

## 2. Configure the app version

In the version settings, enter an **App URL**. If you do not have a separate app homepage, use Shopify's `https://shopify.dev/apps/default-app-home` and turn off embedding in the Shopify admin.

Select permissions under **Scopes**:

| What you want to do | Permissions |
| --- | --- |
| View and manage orders | `read_orders`, `write_orders` |
| View and manage products | `read_products`, `write_products` |
| View and manage customers and addresses | `read_customers`, `write_customers` |
| View and adjust inventory | `read_inventory`, `write_inventory` |

Select the first two rows to manage products and orders. Add customer or inventory permissions if you also work with those records. For viewing without making changes, select only the corresponding `read_*` permissions.

Customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses may also need Shopify approval. If access is restricted, follow the [protected customer data application instructions](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/launch/protected-customer-data).

## 3. Set the callback URL and release

1. Open Shopify's connection entry in OOMOL, choose OAuth2, and find the provided callback URL.
2. Copy the full URL into your Shopify app's **Redirect URLs**.
3. Save and choose **Release**.

Copy the callback URL exactly, without changing its path or adding a trailing slash.

## 4. Copy the app credentials

Open **App settings** in Shopify and find **Client ID** and **Client secret**.

Paste both values into the matching fields in OOMOL's Shopify OAuth client configuration, then save.

## 5. Connect your store

1. Continue the Shopify connection in OOMOL.
2. Enter your store's `myshopify.com` domain, such as `acme.myshopify.com`.
3. Review the requested permissions. Order and product read/write permissions are filled in by default. Match this list to any changes you made in Shopify.
4. Start the connection, confirm the store on Shopify's page, and complete installation or approval.
5. Return to OOMOL and confirm that the store is connected. Read the store details or look up a few products to check that you connected the right store.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Callback URL mismatch | Copy the URL from OOMOL again and replace Shopify's **Redirect URLs** value. |
| Store is missing or cannot install | Check that your account can install apps and that the app's [distribution settings](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/launch/distribution/select-distribution-method) permit this store. |
| An operation reports insufficient permissions | Add the permissions in Shopify and release a new version. Update OOMOL's requested permissions and connect again. |
| Connection fails after changing the client secret | Save the new secret in OOMOL and reconnect. |

If Shopify's menus have changed, refer to its [app creation guide](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/dev-dashboard/create-apps-using-dev-dashboard).
