Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an API key?

No. An optional NCBI key raises the E-utilities request limit from 3 to 10 requests per second.

Are references complete?

References depend on publisher-supplied data or recoverable PMC records; citation coverage may also be incomplete.

Can I match an existing citation?

Yes. Provide a raw citation and review the returned candidate article records.
