Create a Spotify App and Connect OOMOL
Spotify connections in OOMOL require your own OAuth app. A Development Mode app requires its owner to have an active Spotify Premium subscription. Spotify currently allows up to five authorized users per development app; each account you connect must be on that app’s allowlist.
1. Create or open your Spotify app
Sign in to the Spotify Developer Dashboard. Create an app or open one you manage. Enter an app name and description, and select Web API when choosing the APIs to use.
2. Register the callback URL
Open OOMOL App Connections, find Spotify, and choose Add account. Copy the full Redirect URI from the OAuth client configuration. In your Spotify app settings, add it under Redirect URIs and save.
Use the exact address OOMOL displays, including its path and any trailing slash. Spotify requires HTTPS for non-loopback redirect addresses.
3. Add your Spotify account
In the same Spotify app, open Settings → Users Management → Add new user. Enter the name and Spotify email address of the account you will connect. Check that the account appears in the allowlist.
4. Save your credentials and connect
- In the Spotify app settings, copy Client ID and reveal Client Secret.
- Paste them into the matching fields in OOMOL’s OAuth client configuration and save. Both values must come from the same app.
- Start the connection, sign in to the Spotify account you added, and approve access.
- Return to OOMOL and check that the account is connected. Read your Spotify profile to verify the account.
Keep the Client Secret private. If you previously connected through OOMOL’s shared Spotify app, save your own app credentials and authorize again.
If you cannot connect
- “The user is not registered for this application”: check the allowlist of the app whose Client ID you saved in OOMOL. Spotify can allow login and then reject API requests with 403 when the account is missing. Matching OOMOL and Spotify email addresses does not add the account automatically.
- Invalid redirect URI: copy OOMOL’s address again and save the exact value in Spotify.
- Connection succeeds but an operation is unavailable: check Spotify’s endpoint access restrictions, granted permissions, and Premium requirements. Creating your own app does not remove Development Mode restrictions.
